How to Make the Most Out of Your Brainstorms

Brainstorming in a New Light

Brainstorming is something we are doing all day long, whether we know it or not. We brainstorm at home, at work, and maybe in the car going to the store. It’s how we create new and innovative ideas. We might think we are going about it the right way, but are we really?

Here at Surefire, we are constantly coming up with new ideas. After reading an article about a new method of brainstorming, I looked at it in a new way. Instead of leading off with ideas, you lead off with questions. It’s more open ended and gives people an opportunity to voice what they are thinking, which ultimately leads to more ideas.

“Brainstorming for questions rather than answers makes it easier to push past cognitive biases and venture into uncharted territory.”

If you think about it, most conversations lead off with a question, so it makes sense that brainstorming would too. If you want to read further, I highly suggest taking a look at the article on Harvard Business Review. You’ll be able to get a deeper look in the making of this method.
