The Importance of Click-to-Call for Your Website

The Importance of Click-to-Call for Your WebsiteMobile search is one of the fastest-growing trends when it comes to online activity. People perform over one billion locally-based searches every month, and at least 50% of those are done on a mobile device.  If you’re a restaurant, automotive or entertainment-based business, the percentage is even higher. Having an easy way for potential customers to contact you is essential to winning business. This is why you should ensure the phone number on your website is “clickable.”

It’s All About Conversion

Getting someone to your website is half the battle, but getting them to contact you is vital to growing your business. Why make it more difficult than it needs to be? Website visitors are used to being told what to do in the call-to-action. Having a clear call to action on your mobile-responsive website is good, but making it easy to execute is even better.

If you are running PPC advertising, having the calls tracked is an important aspect of measuring your ROI for that local marketing campaign. Not only should you have a click-to-call button, you should also set up conversion tracking in your AdWords account.

How to Install a Click-to-Call Button

If you’re using WordPress, adding a click-to-call button is easy. Simply go to the dashboard of your site. Scroll down to Appearance, then click on Menus. From the Menus, you’ll need to select the proper menu, most often the Main Menu. Click on Links and where it says URL, type tel: +1 and your number, including area code. Here’s an example.

tel: +12025551212

Then in the Link Text, you need to either enter a call-to-action (like Click Here to Call Now) or display the phone number (202-555-1212). Don’t forget to click “Add to Menu” and save!

If you’re not using WordPress, check the CMS help section by searching “Click to Call Phone Number” and you should find step-by-step instructions. If not, you can always insert the code via HTML.

Adding the right code to make your number clickable is done in the menu section of your site. All you need to do is add <a href=”tel:8005551212″>800-555-1212</a> to the menu section of the site to simply display the phone number. Most users will know to try to click the number to call you.

If you want to have a call-to-action, that’s easy to add. Insert the code <a href=”tel:8005551212″>Click HERE to Call: 800-555-1212</a>. For a more dynamic call-to-action, you can change it to “Click NOW to Call” or any other verbiage you want to include.

Making it easy for a prospective customer to reach you in today’s mobile world is imperative. As you can see, adding a click-to-call number on your mobile-responsive website isn’t hard, no matter what CMS was used. Knowing that your clients can reach you easily when they get to your site is an important step for measuring lead generation and how your website is performing. Take a moment, go to your website on your cell phone, and check to see if you have a clickable phone number. If not, make the change today!
