Over the years, Google has been coming up with solutions to address a host of business needs. Today some large companies even use Google’s free web-based email service, Gmail, for internal communication. So it’s no surprise that Google has introduced a new feature that will likely prove useful for business and personal Google users alike.
Businesses as well as smaller groups and organizations are turning to the convenience of Google Drive for sharing documents with collaborators. Many users love Google Drive’s simple, straightforward organization. Best of all, it’s easy to share Google Drive documents even with people who aren’t Gmail users.
Now it’s even easier for users to share Google Drive documents from their Android phones or tablets. iPhone and iPad users don’t have this new feature yet, but it’s quite possible that Google will develop something similar for iOS users in the near future, especially after the announcement that the Google Analytics App is now available for iPhone users.
How the Feature Works
When Android users open the Gmail app to send a message, they can touch the “Insert From Drive” option to embed a Google Drive document in one simple step. Before this change, users would have to attach the document using the traditional method, which involved a series of steps.
After the document has been embedded in an email, the user then has the option of sharing the document with other Gmail users. People who receive an embedded Google Drive document through email will be able to access the document right from the email body without having to download an attachment.
What This Means for Businesses
Businesses that use Google tools in their day-to-day business operations will want to take advantage of this new feature. With the touch of a mobile phone, entire Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents can be shared with a large group of users. For anyone in the local internet marketing industry, the introduction of this new feature is a reflection of consumers’ expectations. As the pace of technology continues to pick up, consumers—and mobile users especially—expect mobile apps and other interactive tools to be simple and easy to use. For this reason, they may be frustrated by online forms and apps that don’t operate efficiently, so it’s now more important than ever for business owners to take a look at their online tools; it could be time for an upgrade.
